Trump Demands Imprisonment of Windy City Leader and Illinois Governor as Military Forces Deploy in Metropolis

Former President Donald J. Trump on midweek called for the detainment of Mayor Brandon Johnson and Governor JB Pritzker, accusing them of failing to protect federal immigration officers.

"The city's leader belongs behind bars for failing to secure ICE Officers!" Trump posted on social media early Wednesday. "Governor Pritzker as well!"

Both officials are members of the Democratic party.

These remarks coincide with the deployment of state military troops in the Chicago region following directives from the federal administration, despite vehement protests from state officials including Pritzker and Johnson.

"This represents not the first instance where Trump has sought to have an African American leader unjustly detained," Johnson responded on Wednesday. "I'm not going put."

The governor responded via online channels, stating: "I refuse to yield. Trump is now demanding arrests of democratically chosen representatives checking his power. What remains on the road toward full-blown autocracy?"

By Wednesday morning, military units from Texas had arrived at the Elwood army reserve center, an army base roughly 80 kilometers from Chicago, as the administration pushes forward with its aggressive crime strategy and mass deportation efforts.

Trump has labeled Chicago a "crime-ridden hellhole", despite police data indicate significant drops in many offenses, including homicides.

On Wednesday, two hundred state guard troops were expected to deploy to the region, with another 300 state military personnel readying for deployment, according to reports. Authorities indicated the troops would not perform law enforcement duties but would secure federal immigration agents and their facilities.

Soldiers in combat attire with Texas national guard patches were spotted at the military facility in Elwood. Trucks marked "Disaster Relief" dropped off portable toilets and other supplies. Mobile units were set up in lines. Additional fencing was installed around the compound.

The Federal Aviation Administration imposed no-fly zones over the military base for safety concerns until 6 December.

Federal authorities has escalated immigration enforcement in the city in the past month, sparking protests, particularly near an immigration center in Broadview.

Earlier this week, state and city filed a lawsuit targeting the administration, seeking to block the National Guard deployment, asking a court to stop what they call "Trump's long-declared 'War'" on the city and state, labeling it "unlawful and dangerous".

Legal proceedings on their lawsuit is scheduled for Thursday.

Mayor Johnson also issued an directive on Monday prohibiting federal immigration agents and related personnel from using city-owned property as staging areas for deportation efforts.

Pritzker has charged Trump of using troops as "political props" and "chess pieces".

During a press briefing on the previous day, he said that the president is attempting to "rationalize and make acceptable the presence of military personnel under his direct command."

The historic federal law restricts the army's involvement in civilian law enforcement. However, the president has stated he would be prepared to activate the emergency powers, which permits a commander-in-chief to dispatch active duty military in states that are unable to suppress an uprising or are resisting national authority.

Since starting his new administration, the president has dispatched or discussed deploying military units to at least 10 cities, including major metropolitan areas and California cities like Bay Area and Southern California municipalities, arguing that the military presence is necessary to fight violence and defend immigration agents.

Statistics indicates that serious offenses across the US has decreased in the past few years. In Chicago, for instance, homicides were reduced nearly one-third to under three hundred through August, according to law enforcement reports.

New survey data published on that day found that most Americans oppose the deployment of military forces without an foreign danger.
